Jesse Thistle is the acclaimed author of From the Ashes: My Story of Being Métis, Homeless, and Finding my Way – a Canadian bestseller and finalist in Canada Reads in 2020. He will speak about his ground-breaking work to re-define homelessness and addictions through an Indigenous – and specifically, Métis – lens, and its implications for service providers, educators, governments, and all who work to build stronger, more resilient communities.

Thistle currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at York University in Toronto. He is a PhD candidate and recipient of both the Vanier & Trudeau Scholarships – the highest academic awards for doctoral research in the country. He has also been honoured for his compelling writing and courageous work to advance peace through story, connection, and healing.
